Describing Spring Creek Baptist Church is an incredibly difficult task, not because there is so little to say, but because there is so much to say. First and foremost, Spring Creek is a group of believers who are dedicated to following Jesus on the journey of faith. We believe that our highest calling is to love God with our whole being and to love the world the way we have been loved. We also understand the call of Jesus to be a call to community. Therefore, we seek to be a family who embarks on the faith journey hand in hand.
At Spring Creek, we believe that God created all things, redeems us through the person of Jesus Christ, and leads us through the presence of the Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus is our ultimate authority in all things, and that Scripture is our trustworthy and eternally true guide.
Spring Creek holds to traditional Baptist beliefs, and we take great pride in our Baptist heritage. We believe and practice core Baptist values such as the autonomy of the local church, the priesthood of believers, believer's baptism, separation of church and state, and the authority of Scripture. Because of these beliefs, we relate to the Southern Baptist Convention, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Baptist World Alliance, and other denominational entities. Although we value our Baptist roots, we also seek to be inclusive in outlook, joining hands with a variety of organizations and denominations in doing Kingdom work.
Spring Creek's history is fairly short, only reaching back to 1981, but we believe that our short history is also a rich history. In 1981, Trinity Baptist Church of downtown Oklahoma City saw the need to establish a satellite campus in "far northwest Oklahoma City" because of the recent growth and expansion in that part of the city. Over time, however, their vision evolved from a satellite campus of Trinity to a mission church all its own. On September 12, the members of Spring Creek Baptist Church gathered for Sunday School and Worship for the very first time. These gatherings were held in a local elementary school. On May 1, 1983, ground was broken for the current facilities located at 11701 N. MacArthur in Oklahoma City. Through the leadership of her pastors, Dr. Steven Graham and Dr. Brian Brewer, Spring Creek remained faithful to her original calling of reaching northwest Oklahoma City and beyond with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Even today, Spring Creek looks forward to fulfilling the vision cast by the members of Trinity Baptist Church several years back.
It is virtually impossible to grasp the spirit of Spring
Creek from a web page. While we hope this page has been helpful to you, we
also invite you to see for yourself. We welcome you to attend a worship service,
visit a Sunday School, or join us for a fellowship. We would consider it an
honor to get to know you, even as you get to know us. Hopefully, as we journey
together, we can even get to know God!
